The Caribbean Telecommunications Union joins the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD). WTISD has been celebrated annually every 17 May since 1969 to mark the founding of the ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.
WTISD is observed to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
This year, the theme of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2022 is Digital technologies for Older Persons and Healthy Ageing.
The CTU has been doing its part to bridge the digital divide by improving the quality of Internet service and making the Internet more accessible in Caribbean through the establishment of Internet exchange points.
