The elections took place during the 30th GC, the highest decision-making body of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), held on 2nd October 2024. The GC and the 51st Executive Council, which reports into the GC, were held as part of the activities of CTU ICT Week 2024 – St Kitts and Nevis from 30th September to 4th October 2024. The Week was hosted by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis through its Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) in collaboration with the CTU.
The CTU is an inter-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting the development of the Caribbean information and communications technologies (ICT) sector. Commenting on his re-election, Minister Bacchus highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in the global digital landscape. “The Caribbean cannot be a mere onlooker. Rather, we must be active innovators and contributors, ensuring that our regional priorities, unique perspectives and culture are safeguarded and prioritised at a global level.”
In accepting his election as Vice-President of the GC, Minister Maynard indicated, “We believe in the work that the CTU is doing, and we will offer and leverage any support that we can give to ensure that the CTU continues to elevate in its standing, its credibility and the work that it is doing across the region.”
The GC reviewed a range of strategic topics essential to advancing ICT policy, regulation and innovation throughout the Caribbean and approved or adopted key recommendations and resolutions.
The CTU remains committed to working with its Member States, its other members, partners and stakeholders to accelerate digital transformation in the Caribbean.
