On World Radio Day 2025, the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) celebrates the transformative role of radio in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time —climate change.
This year’s theme, “Radio and Climate Change: A Powerful Tool for Climate Action,” highlights radio’s critical role in climate resilience, early warning systems and disaster preparedness.
In partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), the CTU recently advanced climate resilience efforts by providing small-scale fishers with VHF-DSC radio training (4th to 6th February). This initiative, under the Smart Seas Toolkit for Disaster Resilience project, empowers fishers with reliable communication tools to enhance safety at sea, particularly in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
As the #Caribbean continues to experience the impacts of climate change, the CTU remains committed to leveraging radio and #telecommunications as powerful tools for climate adaptation, disaster resilience and sustainable development.
