Flashback: Mr. Rodney Taylor, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, and Mr. Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the United Nations Universal Postal Union, at the signing of an MoU between the organisations in Bern, Switzerland, in March 2023.
On behalf of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), I extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on the occasion of World Post Day 2024 and the 150th anniversary of your esteemed organisation. This year’s theme, “150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations,” reflects the profound impact that the UPU has had in fostering global connectivity, inclusivity and economic development.
For a century and a half, the UPU has been a beacon of innovation and collaboration, bridging distances and breaking down barriers to facilitate the free flow of information, goods and services. The postal sector remains a cornerstone of communication, serving as a vital link between nations, businesses and communities, particularly in the Caribbean, where the efficient movement of information and resources plays a critical role in our economic resilience and sustainable development.
As the world continues to embrace the digital age, the CTU recognises and applauds the UPU’s commitment to evolving the global postal system to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Your work in integrating cutting-edge technology, ensuring affordability and promoting universal access aligns closely with our own mission of leveraging technology to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
The UPU has been pivotal in fostering global communication and economic development, and the CTU is proud to collaborate in these efforts. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the CTU and UPU marks a significant milestone in our partnership, as we work together to enhance postal services and digital connectivity throughout the Caribbean.
As you commemorate this significant milestone, we at the CTU look forward to continuing our partnership with the UPU in pursuing shared goals of connectivity, innovation and development. Together, we will work to ensure that the postal sector continues to play a vital role in empowering individuals and fostering a globally inclusive digital economy.
Once again, congratulations on this historic occasion. We wish you continued success in your mission to connect and empower the world for the next 150 years and beyond.
Rodney Taylor
